The Lexus Florida Training Center is first technical training facility in Florida to get a LEED certification for its commercial interiors. STOCKXPERT
The US state of Florida recently had its first technical training facility “LEED CI” certified as Toyota’s Lexus Florida Training Center in Miramar was awarded by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) with the distinction.
The Lexus Florida Training Center achieved its certification through actions which included efficient light fixtures with occupancy controls and the use of low emitting adhesives, sealants, paints, carpet and ceiling tiles, among others. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The training center was certified for the commercial interiors category.
Construction for LEED certification was done from April to August 2008, before the facility was submitted for an extensive review process by the USGBC.
Other green efforts by the Lexus Florida Training Center include “green housekeeping” practices by using certified products which do not contain harmful chemicals and are bought in bulk to reduce wasteful packaging; the purchase of 100% renewable electricity for the first two years of operation and a site-specific waste reduction program.
Toyota has three other LEED-certified buildings. These are the Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) Headquarters South Campus and Toyota Logistic Services in Portland, Oregon, and Toyota Motor America in Washington, DC.
The USGBC is a non-profit organization committed to expanding sustainable building practices. It provides various levels of LEED certification based on evaluations in the areas of sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. is the marketing, sales, distribution and customer service arm of Toyota, Lexus and Scion.
