Glacier Bay, Inc., a manufacturer of intelligent power management systems, recently secured $10 million in funding for its growth and product development. Westly Group, a California-based clean technology-oriented venture capital firm that focuses primarily on companies with proven revenue streams, led the investment. Other investors were New Enterprise Associates (NEA), a Maryland-based venture capital firm, and Quercus Trust, a “green” technology venture fund in North America with investments in solar, water, bio-fuels, wind and batteries. “It’s been an outstanding year,” said Marc Hoffman, CEO of Glacier Bay. “The company ended the first half 141% ahead of plan due to sales of its innovative no-idle solution and recently received purchase orders from Raytheon and the Navy for its load-following generators,” he added, referring to the first half sales of Glacier Bay’s electric auxiliary power unit, ClimaCab. Glacier Bay has a patent-pending intelligent power management technology which makes products like wind turbines and motors 10% more efficient compared with similar products without the technology. The ClimaCab electric APU, which has the capability to recharge batteries without the fuel its diesel counterpart uses, was recently adopted by Texan-based Sky Transportation Services.
