Flat plate solar thermal collectors are the most common collector type for domestic hot water heating. Eurostar Solar Energy’s tie-up with Tata BP Solar in the solar water heating business will address the markets for domestic use, hotels, and hospitals. Other industries that use hot water or steam in their manufacturing processes were also being eyed.
In a statement, Eurostar Solar Energy said businesses will have “significant” savings in operational costs by using solar energy in running their production lines. “For example, a process industry currently using fossil fuel to run production lines now has the option to invest in a solar solution for three to five years, after which the same production lines will run on free energy for a further period of 10-15 years, clearly providing for significant savings and a worthwhile investment option,” said Raju T. Jethwani of Eurostar Solar Energy’s parent company, Eurostar Group.
Eurostar Solar Energy was recently launched by the Eurostar Group to offer design, supply, installation, commissioning, and other services for solar water heating and PV systems. The group originally pioneered the digital satellite receivers industry and later diversified into infrastructure, energy, and other business lines.
Eurostar Solar Energy’s solar water heating products will be provided by Tata BP Solar, which is also a joint venture between India’s Tata Power Company and BP solar. Together, both companies have reportedly already installed solar water heating systems in India with a total water use of 2.5 million liters a day.
Eurostar Solar Energy markets two kinds of solar thermal products, which use the sun’s radiation for water heating. The company sells evacuated tube and flat plate systems. Eurostar operates in the Middle East, Africa, the Indian subcontinent, Asia, and the region covering the former Soviet states.
